It’s a beautiful day for the market and I hope you are making plans to stop and shop! We have a variety of local vendors with seasonal, just picked produce, pastured meat and eggs and raw honey.

Stuart Farm will have an EARLY BIRD Labor Day meat special today- 2 bags of chicken drumsticks and 2 pounds of ground beef for $23.00 Stuart Farm pasture raises heritage breed pigs, chickens and beeves. Enjoy the American Milking Devon beef and Freedom Ranger chickens in this package. They will also have pastured chicken eggs and a variety of Tamworth pork cuts.

Colby with Farrar Out Farms will have a variety of pastured non GMO cuts of beef, pork and chicken today. Ask Colby about the turkeys that he raises and will be taking orders for soon. We have enjoyed Farrar Out Farm turkeys for Thanksgiving and I bet you will too! Colby and his mom Cindy will also have organically raised vegetables today. They have been bringing watermelons and cantaloupe as well.

Holly and Randy along with their two kinds raise a variety of unique produce on Rosy Buck Farm. They also grow sprouts, make kombucha and forage. Visit them and see what surprises their gardens, fields and forest have gifted them.

Josh with Crooked Tree Farm will have some organically produced (almost wild) white peaches today. He has been bringing a gorgeous array of tomatoes as well. Josh may have peppers and beans. Depending on the rain and temperatures that hover over his gardens and fields, Josh will have some surprises as well.

Bob of Honey Nuts and Twigs Farm will have his table covered with locally produced, raw honey- usually a couple of varieties. Bob has great BEE stories and loves to share his experiences and expertise.

A unique and delicious variety of “Philly” Sandwiches will be made fresh to order from HillBilly Philly’s grill today! Enjoy a sandwich at the market or take one home.

Recipe for Zuchinni Carrot Fritters
Makes 6-8 medium size fritters

*About 3 1/2- 4 cups of grated zuchinni and carrots
Or just zuchinni
Squeeze Out Excess Liquid/Juice from Veggies
* 1/4 cup finely chopped onion or scallion
* 1 clove finely chopped garlic (or a dash of garlic powder)
Mix together in bowl and set aside

For Batter
Mix 1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
salt and pepper
Add 1 beaten egg and 1 cup milk
Mix flour (dry mix) and milk and eggs (wet mix) together until smooth
Add finely grated lemon zest from 1/2 small lemon- the lemon zest is optional, but really adds a nice “pop”

In frying pan, use whatever oil or combination of oils that you would like. I cover the bottom of a 10″ cast iron skillet and add a little extra. When the oil is hot, use a measuring cup or scoop and pour “patties” of batter into the hot oil. Let sizzle and brown and then turn. Cook until golden and crispy on both sides. Drain. Can keep warm in oven until ready to serve. If there are leftovers, they reheat nicely in a toaster oven or under a broiler.
